Feeling hot-hot-hot: our top tips for staying cool this summer.

With winter in the rear view mirror, its time to put away the blankets and look for your sunnies!

The Australian summer is hot AF.

This is not news to us. As one of the hottest countries on the planet, we know summer means avoiding seat buckles, rocking wooly steering wheel covers and ditching the flanno sheets.

If you’re unlucky enough not to have aircon, you’ll be familiar with lying in bed seething at 2am as a $10 fan from Bunnings pathetically blows hot air back at you. Or if you do have sweet, beautiful aircon, you’ll be used to copping those extravagant summer electricity bill 💸.

Don’t get us wrong, we’re SUPER pumped for summer. But, before it’s upon us, we wanted to remind you of what’s to come and help get you prepared. Read on for our hot tips for keeping your cool this summer.

1. It’s time to say goodbye to your pedestal fan from 1988.

Firstly, could it BE any louder? You’re already a sweaty mess, you don’t need your fan to be rattling away keeping you awake. Secondly, fans have become a lot more energy efficient in later years.

2. Make like Edward Cullen and avoid the sun

There are some small things you can do around your home to avoid the XTREME sunlight in summer.

Shutting your blinds/curtains/rollers in the mornings., can really help keep your house cooler for longer, and reduce your reliance on the aircon.

Same goes for the afternoons, after the sun has settled over the horizon, you should open up your humble home to the sweet coolness of the night. If there is a breeze, you can even splash water on your veranda or doorsteps so the wind catches the cool air and brings it throughout the house.

3. Sleep like an Egyptian

When they weren’t building massive pyramids or worshiping cats, ancient Egyptians were busy inventing ways to combat their horrid summers. Cue: Egyptian sheets. These high thread cotton sheeted are absolutely amaaaaaazing to deal with the heat because of the breathable linen. A little pricey, but if it’s good enough for Cleopatra, it’s good enough for me.

4. The holy grail – air conditioning

Let’s pay some attention towards the creme de la creme in keeping cool, the air conditioning unit.

Before summer sets in, it is best to make sure your aircon is ready to deal with being thrashed all summer.

Whens the last time it was serviced or inspected? Has it been playing up lately? Read our blog about aircon maintenance to make sure you’re on top of it all.
